Money Exchange "Black Market" Shortchange

Unofficial money changers near Palma Real Shopping Village and along the Bávaro beach strip approach tourists offering exchange rates slightly above the official rate. After agreeing on an amount, the changer uses sleight of hand to short-count the Dominican pesos handed back, or folds bills so smaller denominations appear to be larger ones. By the time the tourist counts the money, the changer has disappeared into the crowd.
