About

The editorial voice behind every destination guide on the site.

Cody is the editor in chief of Before You Go Travels, a destination-by-destination tourist scam intelligence resource. He oversees research, editorial review, and publishing standards across more than 450 destinations — drawing on government travel advisories, established travel communities, and verified news coverage.

The site began as a personal frustration. Like most travelers, Cody spent hours before each trip digging through forum threads, Reddit posts, and outdated blog comments to figure out what to actually watch for in a new city. The information was always somewhere — buried, scattered, hard to confirm. Before You Go is the version that should have existed.

Today, every destination guide on the site goes through the same editorial process: multi-source cross-referencing, location-specific verification, and review against established advisory standards before publishing. New scam reports submitted by readers are reviewed before they appear. Warnings that go uncorroborated for 12 months are flagged for re-review.

“Travel safety advice has to be specific to be useful. Generic warnings about ‘watch your bag’ help no one. The scam at the Trevi Fountain is not the scam at the Grand Palace. Our job is to surface the local pattern, not the global cliché.”
