Touts on Cavill Avenue and the surrounding streets in Surfers Paradise approach visitors with free or discounted entry offers to nightclubs, sometimes accompanied by vouchers for complimentary drinks. On arrival, patrons discover the "free entry" requires purchasing a minimum drink package, or the complimentary drinks are non-alcoholic while premium items are aggressively pushed. Some venues have a history of inflated cover charges applied after entry.
