Online Scams in Oxford

Fake "University of Oxford" Wi-Fi Hotspot

Near the Radcliffe Camera, Broad Street, and the tourist hotspots around Carfax Tower, rogue Wi-Fi access points broadcast an SSID such as "University of Oxford Visitor" or "OxfordCity Free WiFi." Connecting allows a man-in-the-middle attacker to intercept login credentials, emails, and payment data. The technique requires minimal equipment and is mobile, making perpetrators hard to identify.
