Rotterdam's high volume of international visitors means tourists frequently encounter PIN terminals in restaurants, shops, and hotels that offer dynamic currency conversion — presenting the bill in the tourist's home currency at an inflated rate rather than in euros. Some cashiers pre-select the home currency on the terminal before handing it to the customer, making it easy to accidentally accept a 4–8% markup without noticing.
