Standalone ATMs in Las Terrenas (especially around Pueblo de los Pescadores) have repeatedly trapped cards with a thin metal sleeve. An accomplice arrives offering "help," coaxing the PIN before "leaving to call the bank." Use ATMs only inside Banreservas or Scotiabank branches. If a card is retained, never share the PIN with strangers and call the bank immediately — preferably by going inside a branch.
