Criminals use dating apps and social media to arrange meetings with tourists in Buenos Aires, then drug their drinks or food before robbing them of cash, cards, passports, and electronics. The US State Department and Canadian government both specifically warn about this tactic, noting victims are often targeted at their own accommodation after inviting someone they met online. Some victims have reported waking up hours later with all valuables gone and no memory of the robbery.
