Restaurants in the Old City moat area and near Tha Phae Gate commonly present one menu to tourists with prices two to three times higher than the Thai-language menu used by locals. Bills may also include service charges or "table fees" that are not shown on the menu, and pointing out the discrepancy is often met with insistence that it is a standard charge.
