Money changers operating near the medina gates and along Avenue Mohammed el-Qorri offer attractive exchange rates to lure tourists, then shortchange them using sleight of hand or by folding notes to obscure the count. Victims typically discover the shortage only after leaving the exchange window. The deficit is usually 10–20% of the exchanged amount.
