Some versions involve the scammer asking the tourist to scan a code to join a travel group, which then sends spam payment requests. Never scan QR codes from strangers on the street, even if framed as a social or informational exchange. Add contacts in WeChat only by searching their username directly. If you accidentally scan a suspicious code, do not enter any credentials and close the screen immediately.
