Unofficial Wildlife Guide Offers Near Highway

Along Highway 16 approaching Jasper and at wildlife viewing pullouts such as those near Jasper Lake and the Athabasca River flats, individuals claiming to be local wildlife experts approach vehicles and offer to guide tourists to guaranteed bear or moose sighting locations for cash. These individuals have no Parks Canada authorization and frequently lead tourists off-trail into wildlife habitat closures, which can result in both fines and safety risks.
