Fake Hotel Staff Street Approach

Individuals in Kandy claim to work at a tourist's hotel or guesthouse and approach them in the street near the Temple of the Tooth precinct, the Kandy Lake walkway, or the bus stand. Posing as off-duty staff, they offer to show the tourist cheaper markets, local festivals, or special experiences. The real purpose is to steer visitors to shops and services where the impersonator collects commissions. Some operators also claim a pharmacy, restaurant, or attraction recommended by the tourist's hotel is closed and offer to take them somewhere better.
