Fake or grossly misrepresented vacation rental listings for La Fortuna appear on VRBO, Airbnb, and local booking sites, advertising volcano-view pools and jungle lodges that either do not exist or bear no resemblance to photos. Deposits of 200 to 500 USD are collected via wire transfer or Zelle before arrival, and the property turns out to be a basic room or non-existent. The La Fortuna area is particularly targeted because premium eco-lodge imagery is widely available for cloning.
