Waterfall Trail Unofficial Toll Collectors

On the road and trail leading to La Fortuna Waterfall (Catarata del Rio Fortuna), individuals positioned at informal checkpoints collect unofficial entry contributions or parking fees from tourists before they reach the legitimate ticket booth at the waterfall entrance. The official entry fee is collected at a clearly marked booth operated by the Municipalidad de San Carlos; anything collected before that point is unauthorized.
