Upscale restaurants and beach clubs on Victoria Island — particularly along Adeola Odeku Street and at Landmark Beach — routinely add a 10–15% "service charge" plus VAT to bills without flagging this at the menu or point of order. In some establishments, these charges are buried in fine print. A secondary tactic involves waiters suggesting expensive off-menu specials with no price quoted, presenting a significantly inflated bill afterward. Disagreements are difficult to resolve once you are inside a private venue.
