Taxis on Lanzarote operate under an official fixed-rate tariff system between key zones, but some drivers quote inflated flat rates verbally, especially from Arrecife Airport to Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise. Tourists unfamiliar with the official zonal fares can be overcharged by 50 percent or more. Night and Sunday surcharges are legitimate but some drivers apply them without eligibility.
