ATV and quad bike rental operators in Las Terrenas charge tourists for pre-existing damage on return of the vehicle, claiming the tourist caused scratches, dents, or mechanical issues that were there before the rental began. Operators withhold deposits until payment is made and sometimes call police to pressure tourists into settling.
