Hotels in Aguas Calientes advertise rooms online at one rate and demand a higher price on arrival, claiming the booking was "not confirmed" or that the original room is unavailable. Some unaffiliated touts at the train station claim to represent popular hotels and walk travelers to inferior guesthouses, pocketing a commission and leaving the visitor in a property far below expectations.
