Budget accommodation operators in Riga's Old Town advertise attractive en-suite rooms on booking platforms but assign arriving guests to dormitory beds or substantially inferior rooms, citing "overbooking" or "system errors". Guests who paid in advance are told refunds will take weeks, effectively forcing them to accept the downgraded room or find alternative accommodation at their own expense.
