Street Map or Petition Distraction Pickpocket

In Santiago Centro and around tourist sites like Cerro Santa Lucia and Paseo Ahumada, individuals approach tourists with a large map, petition clipboard, or asking for directions. While attention is occupied by one person, an accomplice picks pockets or unzips backpacks. The technique is also used with camera selfie requests - one person operates the camera while another takes valuables.
