Restaurants in Shekou fishing village and along Shenzhen Bay waterfront advertise live seafood priced by weight. Visitors select fish or shellfish from tanks and staff weigh them in the kitchen without the visitor present, returning a bill reflecting a weight much higher than the actual item. Some venues use rigged scales or charge for the water weight of the tank.
