Accommodation Bait-and-Switch

Several guesthouses and dive-school-affiliated accommodations in Utila advertise basic rooms at low prices to attract divers, then claim the advertised room is unavailable and offer a more expensive upgrade. The practice is especially common during peak dive season (March–May and November) when the island fills quickly. Some properties require you to take courses with their affiliated dive school as a condition of staying at the advertised rate.
