Clone websites impersonating well-known Uyuni tour operators such as Red Planet Expeditions and Oasis Tours accept online deposits via PayPal or credit card for 3-day salt flat and Laguna Colorada tours. Bookings appear confirmed with professional-looking emails, but on arrival in Uyuni no record of the reservation exists. The scam is particularly effective because many legitimate operators do have websites and accept advance payment. Losses typically equal the deposit of USD 30 to 80 per person.
