How it works
Market stalls and small shops in the town centre sell products labeled as "organic" or "medicinal" dried mushrooms, herbal teas, and supplements that are neither organic nor accurately described. Some products contain psychoactive substances not listed on the label. Price is set at a premium for the organic and wellness branding, which does not reflect actual product content.
How it works
The main petrol station used by most tourists near the old airstrip area of Vang Vieng has been reported multiple times for failing to reset the pump meter between customers. A tourist filling a motorbike or scooter is charged for the fuel already dispensed to a previous customer, in addition to their own fill. Because fuel amounts in kip can reach large numbers quickly, tourists who do not watch the pump reset often pay significantly more than they should without realising it.
