Cash-Only Surcharges and ATM Absence Exploitation

Wadi Rum has no ATMs inside the protected area, and camp operators and jeep drivers are aware that visitors who arrive without sufficient Jordanian dinars are in a weak negotiating position. Some operators charge a "card processing fee" of 10–20% for any card transaction, quote prices in USD then convert at an unfavorable rate, or suddenly increase the agreed price at the end of a tour knowing the visitor cannot easily dispute without cash.
