Fake Short-Term Rental Listings Near the National Mall

Fraudulent Airbnb and VRBO listings advertise apartments within walking distance of the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, and Capitol Hill at below-market rates. After a deposit is paid, the host claims a last-minute cancellation and offers to rebook through a direct wire transfer or simply disappears. The properties shown often belong to other residents whose photos were stolen from legitimate listings. DC limited affordable inventory near tourist sites makes these listings appear plausible.
