Dala Dala and Tuk-Tuk Overcharging

Tuk-tuks (bajajis) and shared minibuses (dala dalas) in Zanzibar routinely quote foreigners fares 3–5 times the standard local rate, particularly for routes between Stone Town, Nungwi, and Kendwa. Taxi drivers at the ferry terminal and airport quote arbitrary rates for the same routes with wide variation between operators. There is no metered taxi system on the island, making all fares subject to negotiation and susceptible to significant overcharging.
