Several restaurants in the Stone Town tourist district — particularly those fronting Forodhani Gardens and Kenyatta Road — present foreign visitors with menus that list higher prices than those shown to local customers. A common variant involves seafood displayed on ice at the entrance: the price per fish is not stated upfront, and the bill is calculated by weight at an inflated rate after the meal. Dishes are also sometimes served with side items not requested but charged regardless.
