Drink Spiking and Nightlife Theft

In Almaty's nightlife districts, particularly around Zhibek Zholy and the bar-heavy blocks near the Esentai Mall area, tourists report having drinks spiked by new acquaintances who later steal cash, phones, and bank cards while the victim is incapacitated. Victims typically wake up in a taxi or outside the venue with no memory of the latter part of the night. This is distinct from the organised bar overcharging scam — here the primary objective is theft rather than an inflated bill, and perpetrators act in small groups targeting lone tourists or couples who have been separated.
