Fraudulent operators advertise estancia (ranch) day trip packages from Montevideo to the surrounding Canelones or San Jose departments via Facebook ads and WhatsApp groups. Travelers pay R$1,500-$3,000 Uruguayan per person for a full-day experience including asado and horse riding, then receive no confirmation and cannot reach the operator. Legitimate estancia tours have high demand and scammers exploit the visibility of real operators.
