Street-level currency exchange booths clustered along Walking Street and Beach Road in Pattaya operate with two different rate boards — one visible from a distance showing a competitive rate, and a second with worse rates presented only when you approach the counter. Cashiers counting out baht notes also use sleight of hand to short-change tourists by folding smaller notes inside larger ones and counting quickly, relying on the tourist not knowing the denominations.
