How it works

Around Pattaya Pier and along Beach Road, unlicensed vendors sell day trips to Koh Larn and other nearby islands at prices that undercut official operators. Boats used are often overcrowded and lack safety equipment. Once at sea, passengers may be charged additional fees for life jackets or snorkeling gear that was supposed to be included. Some operators collect payment and then claim the trip is cancelled, keeping a portion of the refund as a "processing fee."
