Fake Vacation Club Check-In Delay

Visitors checking into resort hotels in the Hotel Zone along Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio are intercepted by staff in branded uniforms near the lobby or shuttle drop-off area. They claim the room is "not quite ready" and invite guests to a nearby lounge for complimentary drinks and a brief "welcome orientation." The orientation is a high-pressure vacation club or timeshare sales pitch lasting 90 minutes or more, often with alcohol involved. Guests who signed a form for the "free gift" at check-in are sometimes held to a commitment to attend.
