Unlicensed Guesthouse Hidden Fees

Small unlicensed guesthouses in the Ximending and Zhongzheng districts sometimes advertise low nightly rates online but add undisclosed fees for Wi-Fi, towels, air conditioning, or a mandatory city tourism levy at checkout. The total bill can be 30–50% higher than the advertised price, and owners may refuse to issue a receipt or show the fee schedule in advance.
