How it works
Udaipur's auto-rickshaw and tuk-tuk drivers operate the most comprehensive commission shop network in Rajasthan, earning 20–40% referral fees from craft shops, gem dealers, and tailors to which they deliver tourists. Drivers typically offer free or heavily discounted transport in exchange for visiting specific shops, or claim a shop is "on the way" to your destination when it is not. This is the most-reported scam in Udaipur.
How it works
Boat operators at the Lake Pichola ghats charge foreign tourists significantly more than domestic visitors for sunset cruises and trips to Jag Mandir island, sometimes quoting three to five times the government-fixed rate. Private boat operators at lesser-used ghats present themselves as offering the same service as the official RTDC boats at the Rameshwar Ghat.
How it works
Unofficial guides at the City Palace main entrance offer tours for a negotiated fee and then demand significantly more at the end, claiming the original price was "per section" or did not include certain parts of the palace.
