Individuals posing as informal guides offer self-styled "gnome tours" — purportedly leading tourists to the hundreds of dwarf (krasnale) statues hidden around Wroclaw — and use the walking tour as cover for theft or to steer tourists toward overpriced shops that pay them a commission. Some ask for payment upfront for a tour that is cut short or never delivered, while others simply lead tourists past commission-paying shops with high-pressure sales tactics.
